Author summary: The baseline of ornamental fishes in Peru, published in 2021, systematises studies carried out between 2015 and 2019 in the regions of Loreto, Ucayali, San Martin and Madre de Dios, addressing ecological, biological, socioeconomic and cultural aspects. Around 300 native species with ornamental potential were identified, including records of genetic diversity, traditional practices and gene flow. The report incorporates ex ante risk assessments for fluorescent modified live fish, providing key technical inputs for biosafety decisions under the Cartagena Protocol.
